Overview:

We will review how Casey died from being run over by a distracted driver in July of 2009 and how this experience led Joel Feldman and his wife, Diane Anderson as parents to tackle the issue of distracted driving. They have organized a  program that has served to take their fear that their child would be forgotten and turn the tragedy into something positive that would create a legacy for her.

They have organized End Distracted Driving and tell the story of what this organization is doing to influence others.

Distracted Driving Program-End Distracted Driving(EndDD.org)

DD Program Emphasizes:

  • Telling a sad story is not enough-we work with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and use science behind program to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Distracted driving is something that all of us-not just teens do.
  • Parents are role models and as such need to set the example.

Note to Parents: Parents-we love our children more than anything in the world, yet we drive distracted with them in the car. What have your children learned from watching you drive? If they have seen mom or dad drive distracted sit them down and tell them it is not safe, that you have decided not to drive distracted and enter into the EndDD.org Family Safe Driving Agreement.

  • Minimization of risks and empowering each of us to drive safer

3 Key Points:

  1. It took losing our daughter for us to change the way we drive—It should not take personal tragedies for all of us to commit to driving safer
  2. There is “safe driving” and “lucky driving”-before Casey was killed we were “lucky drivers”-What kind of driver are you?
  3. Education is key and role modeling for others is a shared responsibility and will lead to prevention of accidents and death.
