On a very short deadline, Nancy engaged with us to support our efforts to conduct research, analyze data, and develop a compelling business case for a Board level presentation of a new investment area related to Nursing Education. With her professional experience, strong influence network, and her vast first-hand knowledge of the nursing and healthcare profession, Nancy brought perspective and objectivity to a critical strategic decision-making time for our business. She was persistent, flexible, collaborative, and personally committed to complete a quality and timely project report for us, despite a last-minute redirection of approach. While her professionalism, and straightforward communication style are notable strengths, what sets Nancy apart for me is her candor and delightful sense of humor—you too will find working with Nancy a distinct pleasure.

Marlene Galante, General Manager Skyscape, Inc.

“I had the pleasure of working with Nancy Valentine for six years in her role as system CNO of Main Line Health. I found her to be inspiring and creative in focusing nurse leaders on the ten years ahead of us. She exhibited great insight in positioning nursing to thrive during the upcoming economic and political firestorm facing health care today. Nancy engaged the Deans from the Universities around us inspiring them to understand future roles of nurses and needed curriculum preparation on their behalf.

Vice President Patient Services/Chief Nursing Officer
Paoli Hospital Paoli, PA

When CNO Nancy Valentine presented the nursing and patient care services strategic plan to the President’s Group, I could see how it fit into the overall Main Line Health strategic plan and that was something new. Sometimes nursing seems to be an afterthought in such discussion, where here, it was integrated into the entire plan of the organization. That was a differentiator. Sometimes it seems nursing goes off in their own direction. While the former nursing strategic plan was a good plan and addressed what nurses needed, I could not see how it related to the entire system. This time, I could see the framework for how nursing was playing a role in quality and safety, how they were addressing areas that relate to highly engaged people etc. The presentation and the actual plan was a very good communication tool and illustrated clearly the role that nurses played.

“There are few consultants in health care who bring the breadth of experience and knowledge of Dr. Valentine. Trained in nursing through her advanced practice masters degree from Penn, Nancy has held leadership positions at Harvard (McLean Hospital) and Boston City Hospital. Before leaving the Boston area, she also completed her PhD in Health Policy from Brandeis (while working full-time). From Boston, she went on to senior leadership positions at the Department of Veterans Affairs, CIGNA Health Care, and Main Line Health System. In short, Nancy understands critical issues at the level of direct patient care (across the span of health care services), to the leadership of a large public sector health system, managed care, and a multi-hospital suburban-based system of care. Nancy is also a delight to work with. As a consultant, she functions as a colleague! We have worked together as consultants to the University of Vermont and the Fletcher Allen Health System in the Burlington area, and previously as colleagues at McLean Hospital. She has my highest possible recommendation.”

Roger E. Meyer, MD
Professor of Psychiatry
Penn State Hershey Medical Center
former VP Health Affairs, Executive Dean and CEO, George Washington University Medical Center.

“The combination of policy and executive leadership/management perspectives enables Dr Valentine both to see the bigger picture and also to manage the details that bring success to a given project. Her ground breaking work at VA opened doors for nurses to gain additional education, research funds and the opportunity for APRN’s to practice at the full extent of their license. The role of national nursing executive that she articulated in person at CIGNA HealthCare has been replicated at United HealthCare, AETNA and set the bar for other business environments. At Regis College she was the first nurse to receive an honorary degree and as a trustee she was a trusted advisor for a growing nursing program. Her hallmarks are building strong teams to get a job done while dealing with controversy and resistance from those who work against change, taking a thoroughly interdisciplinary and communal approach, while having excellent communication skills where she is at ease in all forums. If our country had a position of “Nurse General” as we have “Surgeon General”, Nancy should have that job as her combination of elements-training, experience, insight, personality-would be beneficial for thousands on a national level.”

Mary Jane England, MD
Clinical Professor and Chair ad interim

former President, Regis College. Weston, MA

Nancy brought a level of expertise to the academic review at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles that was essential to our success in moving forward to improve our nursing practice. She was respectful of where we were yet focused on what is possible and inspired us to move forward. She was an excellent external expert to us at an important time of transformation of how we are doing business to meet future challenges.
